Women’s Only BJJ: Why Should Women Do Jiu Jitsu?
The whole basis behind Jiu Jitsu is for a smaller person to be able to take a bigger opponent to the ground and control them. This is usually done by using grappling techniques that can throw off the bigger opponent’s center of gravity, which then allows the smaller person to subdue and neutralize their opponent. At Underground Jiu Jitsu, we believe it is important for women to learn these defense techniques through our Women’s Only BJJ class.
In many cases, women tend to be smaller and have less physical strength than men. Unfortunately, that automatically puts women as targets for violence and crime. It’s important for women to learn how to protect themselves if the need ever rises. Other reasons besides self-defense include increasing flexibility, gaining situational and body awareness, building confidence, staying in shape, learning to stay calm in stressful situations, and most importantly, building a community.
Jiu Jitsu was created to show us that size doesn’t always matter and that the smaller person shouldn’t be underestimated.
We created our Women’s Only BJJ class to provide a safe training environment where our ladies can train, work on their goals, and get plenty of one-on-one time with our instructors to help improve technique and work with fellow teammates.
